Matisse-Inspired Cut Paper Collage
My 7th grade art students studied the paper cut outs of French artist Henri Matisse. After brainstorming different theme ideas and making sketches of possible subject matter, the students created cut paper collages based on their themes using only colored paper, scissors, paper punches and glue. Shape, organic and geometric, and space were the two main art elements featured in this project. Each student aimed to create a center of interest and a balance of colors, images and background shapes....
